Zest privacy policy
Zest keeps your scores on your phone. If you choose to sign in or join the rankings, a small amount of data goes to our service. This page says exactly what, and how to delete it.
1. What stays on your phone
Zest keeps your plays, scores, settings and profile on your phone. The profile is your nickname, age band, gender if you chose to give it, tapping hand and the kinds of games you picked. Nothing else leaves your phone unless you turn on one of the features below.
2. If you sign in with Google
Signing in is optional and for adults aged 18 and over. It lets you use the same progress on your phone and on the website.
We ask Google for only the basics: a sign-in confirmation, your Google user ID, and your email address and name. We use the user ID to find your progress. We show your email on your own screen. We do not store your email or name, and we do not use them for ads or share them with anyone.
Zest’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- Google tells us you signed in. We turn Google’s user ID into a scrambled ID that cannot be reversed without a secret key we hold. We do not keep your email address or your name.
- We store your progress under that scrambled ID: your plays and scores, your profile, your daily check-ins and your settings.
- Your email address appears on your own screen so you can see which account you used. It is not sent to our service for storage.
3. If you join the rankings
Rankings are optional, off by default and for adults aged 18 and over. When you turn them on, we store:
- A random ID made for this purpose, kept in scrambled form.
- Your nickname, which can be seen by other players on a leaderboard, with your score.
- Your age band, and your gender if you gave it, used only to compare you with people in the same group. They are never shown to other players.
- Your typical score in each game.
Please do not use your real name or contact details as a nickname. A comparison is only shown when at least 100 players are in the group. You can turn rankings off and delete everything we hold in Settings.
4. Daily challenges and our service
The app asks our service for the day’s challenge. This request contains no personal information. Our service runs on Cloudflare. Like any web service, Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver the request. We do not store IP addresses in our own database.
5. Ads and Premium
The free version of Zest shows ads and offers a paid Premium plan that removes them. To do that it uses:
- Google AdMob (ads). AdMob may collect your device’s advertising ID, IP address, device and app information and approximate location, to show and measure ads and prevent fraud. This is collected by Google, not by us. See how Google uses advertising data. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland you are asked for consent first.
- Google Play Billing (Premium). Google Play handles the payment. We learn only whether your subscription is active. We never see your payment details.
6. Who can use what
- Zest is not for children under 13.
- People aged 13 to 17 can play. Their data stays on their phone. Signing in and rankings are not available to them for now.
- Signing in and rankings are for adults aged 18 and over.
7. Keeping and deleting your data
You are in control from Settings in the app:
- Delete my shared data removes your ranking entries and frees your nickname.
- Delete my cloud data removes your account data from our service. Progress already on your phone stays on your phone.
- Uninstalling the app removes what is stored on the phone.
You can also email us and we will delete your data within 30 days. We keep cloud data until you delete it or ask us to.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act and the GDPR, you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, withdraw consent, and complain to a data protection authority. Email us and we will help. Because we hold only a scrambled ID, we may ask you to sign in with the same Google account so we can find your data.
9. Security
Data travels over encrypted connections. IDs are stored in scrambled form. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not put sensitive information in your nickname.
10. Zest is a game, not health advice
Zest is a game for entertainment. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition. Your scores describe how you did in the games, nothing more.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect, we will update this page and the date above, and ask again where the law requires it.
